completely simplify this particular situation:
There is no longer a facility called "Manchester Approach." The Boston and Manchester approach control facilities have been consolidated, and the new facility is simply called "Boston Approach."
In effect, you were
already talking to the controller responsible for the Manchester Class C airspace you requested to transit. You had already satisfied the requirements to enter this airspace (two-way radio communications), even though the controller you were talking to didn't call himself "Manchester Approach."
