That's good advice. Engineering requires a pretty significant deal of work outside of class - more than most majors.

It's not that bad if you're truly determined or interested in what you're doing. If you want it enough, then you can do it.

If not, you maybe able to slip past the first year, but then you will certainly get owned.

Btw, I'm not trying to discourage you at all.

If it seems like I am, just know that I'm still recovering from the 3hr mech lab I had today and then the midterm right after.
