Weather blues.
Ok, I've been trying to my long solo cross country flight to French Valley, Riverside and back to Van Nuys for the last 5 weeks and it's been cancelled 4 times by weather and once due to the presidential TFR. I was SUPPOSED to go yesterday. Got to the airport and it was crappy. 1-2 miles visibility on my route. I waited about 2 hours and it started to look promising. Riverside was reporting 7 miles, HZ and French Valley was SKC. So my instructor said go for it. I headed out, made it to the Pasadena area, started to look for the Rose Bowl which was my first checkpoint and I couldn't see it. Just a nice layer of haze. Visibility started to deteriorate even more. I could maby see 1 mile ahead of me on the ground. I was having a hard time figuring out where I was and then SoCal approach comes on and tells me to make a turn to the north to avoid wandering into the class B. So at that point I decided to call it a day. Asked for clearance to turn back and made it home ok. For me it was the right decision but dammit...i wanna get this thing done. Ok, end rant!
