Channel 5 morning news here in New York City reported the news fairly and accurately as possible (I was SHOCKED!!!) It just so happens that the weatherman Nick Gregory is a pilot AND flight instructor (just like channel 4's Chuck Scarborough, who's father was a B-17 pilot) and shared what he knew about VFR regulations and more imporatantly DECISION MAKING!!!! Thank GOD for those guys, I'm sure he kept reasonably intelligent people from calling their congressperson this morning. Anyway, the female co-anchor would ACT like she understands, then ask the transporation security expert something like "I can't take more than 3 ounces of shampoo on board an airliner, but small planes can fly around Manhattan, does that make sense?).
The gentleman said, very politely "Not if you take that point of view" and then makes some other points that really shattered her insistence that small a/c are unsafe at least aroung major cities. I thought, "Yeah, stick THAT to her". I really was about to jump through the screen and shake some actual sense into her. Anyway, as a Yankee fan, I can get over the ALDS loss (We WILL win it eventually:-)), but to hear that another fellow pilot AND flight instructor lost their lives AND that Corey Lidle was the pilot gave me a "punch in the gut" feeling. I almost did tear up at my job. My condolences to his family and friends, and of course, his soon to be fans of the Yankee family.
