I once worked for a third level supplemental cargo outfit flying Convairs. This was during the late 80's when times were pretty good in the airline pilot hiring biz.
It was interesting to see what seperated the "lifers", who were stuck at that level, and those who moved on to bigger and better things. Had nothing to do with piloting ability, skill, or experience. The "lifers" were the guys without degrees.
If you're aiming for the top of the profession, you better figure out a way to check that square.
