Because when you try to negotiate a cost-of-living adjustment in your contract, every time, without fail, management will tell you 'There are guys that will pay US to do this job and you have the cajones to ask for a raise? There are 200 guys that'll do your job at today's rates and chances are, they'll do it for LESS and even pay for their own 'training costs'"*

I saw it at my last airline.

I can easily imagine that's what's going on behind the scenes at my present employer where we've got subcontractors demanding to fly larger and longer range jet aircraft and pilots that'll strangle their mothers to do it.

Clear as a heavy lead curtain?

Notes:
* It doesn't take $24,000 to train a Beech 1900 pilot. I doubt if it's much more than a few thousand as you can get a 737 type rating for far less. That's probably the 'market price' for an FO seat.
