When I walked into Gulfstream back in 2002 I really wanted it to be a great place as I already lived in Fort Lauderdale. I was on time for my appointment to tour the place, but I still had to wait 30 mins standing around the reception/lobby/dispatch area for someone to show me around. Students would occasionally walk by and give me the "hello nod" but nobody smiled. The building looked dark and depressing. Finally the head used car salesman/scab/chief pilot walked out and gave me the .05 tour. He proceded to tell me how "lucky" I was for considering Gulfstream so early in my flying career, and showed me a stack of "resumes" of pilots wanting to do the "pay us to be our FO" program, but he could'nt "hire" them, because Gulfstream "hired" from the flight school first. Even though I didn't know any better at the time, something told me that paying Gulfstream to be their FO didn't make sense. I dunno, call me crazy? I walked out of there pretty bummed out, and I felt like I needed a shower.
