Nothing wrong with being on the road if there are no designated bike trails - in fact bikes should follow traffic and obey all rules like any car would. Funny thing is - I come from Bozeman, MT where there is a bike chained to every parking meter, lamp post and tree (usually an expensive bike that gets ridden a lot) - Drivers usually show respect and give plenty of room when passing but the town hardly has any designated trails. Come to Grand Forks and there are bike trails ALL OVER town but 85% the bikes are rusty old huffys and the motorists are clueless on how to deal with cyclers or give way and give respect. I guess I just find it strange that a bike minded town like Bozeman doesn't have much for trails yet Grand Forks has trails everywhere but its full of overweight people that never ride. (and clueless drivers when it comes to bikes) Weird. By the way some of us are starting a bike forum for Grand Forks - since there is a culture of us displaced riders that need to get on eachother and go riding! It was started by a fellow UND instructor Ben Jensen. Check us out! Its not been too active lately but the more the merrier.
