We had the same thing in IAH a month or two ago. We were a few miles outside the marker and the plane rocked violently, both ways, for a good while, enough to kick off the autopilot. We called up tower, "What in the world are we following?? We just got rocked!" Just a 73-800, they replied.

My wife was on the flight, her first flight with me and she said that it scared quite a few people in the back. She said that she was glad that she hadnt told anyone that her husband was flying.
