LOL, sucking, not shaking, don't want to be encouraging that! Swinging is the other. Both of my kids have been receptive to those and haven't really ever had to be held in order to stay asleep. We learned w/ Caleb that you shouldn't start out doing something you don't want to keep doing, we did rock him to sleep at first and then he had to be rocked forever until we started the 5 s's, and broke the habit.

We have the same problem, if we just hold/rock him to sleep, he'll wake up as soon as we put him down. But if I swaddle him and hold him in my hands on his side and vibrate him a little with my hands, he'll settle down instantly and go to sleep for good in about 5 minutes.
