That's a question I could not answer. While I did not experience any trouble whatsoever, it seemed as if there were two different worlds that coexisted but didn't venture too far either way. Does that make sense? You had the people from the U.A.E. and then the visitors and it jsut seemed to work. They have their ways there and if you croosed them then one could get into trouble.

Example; we were told not to photograph the Arab women (beautiful as they were), especially in there native garb (veils) sorry if I missed the correct term. Well one drunk ignorant sailor (not all of us were like that) decided to do so and promptly had his camera taken and destroyed by her male acquaintance.

While I can't answer your question directly, I would like to think that you would be fine. I get the feeling it was like, "you do your thing and we'll do our's)" and as long as we can peacefully co-exist, Great!

(and the shopping was outstanding, especially the gold souks !)
