Pulling in technology and experience from the leading edges of science and design, the engineers at Oakley have created cockpit-grade footwear for pilots of the world’s highest performance vehicles – shoes equally at home in a Formula One car or a Citation X.

Yeah, for all the time a 750 driver spends on those rudder pedals!

What they fail to realize (or worse, admit) is that jets are not flown like light GA aircraft; once you enter the realm of aircraft with yaw dampers, that rudder stuff goes away mostly.

Tactile response is important when learning to fly, and I might be tempted to have students fly the first few lessons barefoot or in socks so they get the feel right. I bought a pair of cheapo "water shoes" (Nike Aqua Sock or similar) with rather thin soles during my training for this very reason. Once I gained a true understanding of what I was doing, I didn't need em anymore and can now get the same results wearing heavy boots.

Moral of the story: $225 is 2-3 hrs of flight time for most of us. Spend the money on that, or maybe on some time in a sailplane--that'll teach you proper rudder control better than a set of fancy Oakley high-tops.
