We proceeded to fly the last 2 miles sideways, so I could not see the runway.

My dad jumpsat many times on BA (pre-9/11) he loved it - he would take off in the cockpit where the sandwiches were, chat with the crew, enjoy the action of take off - go back to the cabin drink some nice drinks just before decending the FA would bring him back up to the cockpit where he would enjoy landing from the flight deck, and was usually the first one off the airplane at the destination.
