Certainly customer service is important, but it's impossible to please all of your customers. Seriously, my reasoning here is that the airline sets a certain policy for a reason. If a small percentage of your customers don't like it, then that's unfortunate for them. If an airline like SWA began letting "larger" folks squeeze into one seat to the chagrin of other paying passengers, they're going to lose far more business than if you require a few large people to pay for an extra seat.

That's something I learned in upper-level collegiate airline industry classes. Sorry.
