Myself and a student, in the 172 today. Perfect traffic pattern and turn to final. We were doing a power off approach, and he was on the numbers today. He flies well, and considering that he took about 5 months off of flying after he solo'd, he's almost there. He's just good enough for me to be too comfortable.
So, about 15 feet off the ground, he banks to the left a little too much for a wing correction, and adds a whole lot off right rudder to stay aligned with the runway. Well, now we're losing centerline, and he starts these crazy banks left and right....still 15 feet in the air (so much for that extra bit of airspeed.
So, I'm on the controls by now, and I mention that we need a little power and I'm getting us on the ground.
Nice landing, but now the throttle is firewalled!!!!!
We made it a full stop to talk about it while we taxied back to discuss it....
Really, he's a great stick! But never let your guard down!!! |
