Default Cleveland air show gets half a decision

[ QUOTE ]
The FAA decided to split the baby. In a decision not really worthy of Solomon, the agency now has informed the Cleveland National Air Show organizers that they will be granted a waiver allowing the military acts to perform this Friday evening, but the civilian performers will have to stay on the ground. Organizers say they'll cancel Friday's twilight show if they can't get all the acts in the air.

[ QUOTE ]
At issue is Public Law 108-7, enacted at the insistence of Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the Division 1 schools of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Ironically, the law, which prohibits flight within three miles of a major league baseball, NFL, or major NCAA game, was couched as a "security" measure, but it also prevents banner towers from flying advertisements above sports stadiums.

If the FAA continues to prohibit air-show operations while a major league game is going on, Cleveland National Air Show organizers say the future of the show is in doubt.
