Re: New opportunity/contract Well the reason this is being offered is because it is a new flight school that just opened up in Iowa City. New as of this summer. The amount of people looking for good training at the price these guys are offering it for has skyrocketed and their business is doing great, and they expect that to continue. The man who is behind all of it works for the FAA down in Oklahoma and flies up to give lessons and ground school every other week or so.
I have been taking ground school lessons with these guys for the past summer and they are very intent on giving their students the information they need to go on past the PPL, to go beyond just what you need to pass the checkride and the written.
It is because they want to offer good education, that they want to hire pilots they have trained themselves. (So that the trainers train the students the same way they were taught.)
Remember that none of the time I get in flight lessons is really coming free. I would still have to devote a certain amount of my time to teaching at the end, to repay the debt I had incurred. To me, that doesn't sound like to bad of an idea because I am building flight time no matter what. The only thing that I won't have solved is my money for on the side type stuff. I think they plan on giving me a little bit of my flight training money as spending money and the rest would go towards paying off the debt. Another benefit was that I would have a job coming straight out of school where as I might not find a CFI or other job right away and would therefore have to spend time jobless.
I have not seen the contract yet, that is why I am coming to you all first. You all have lived it and I just wanted to see how skeptical I need to be when they hand it to me. By choosing this school, I would be locking in my college at the beginning of my senior year.
One last thing you should all know however is that these guys have been outstanding to me so far. They know that I have been raising money to get into the air and that I have been waiting so that I can do it all at once. They have been doing everything in their power to get me in the air.... free. Introducing me to students who are working on IFR ratings and such so that they would take me up. They are very willing to work around my schedule, in fact they don't want me to drop out of my sports and they want to make sure that my grades stay high like they have been.
The thing is that they have not given me any reason to not believe them or to thing that they are going to jip me out of something.
I hope this is some of the extra information you were looking for. I still would like any comments you all may have. Already, I will be going in with a little more skepticism than I would have before. I don't really know anyone besides these guys down at this flight school that can help me make the decision. My family know's little to nothing about flying and really has no clue as to whether this is a good opportunity or not.
If you all could please provide with any and all thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Keep on flying!
