Re: Panic at the Open Doors of ERAU a quick comment on the "backup degree" thing. There are a TON of jobs out there that want you to have a degree in something, they don't care what, and they aren't McD's managers. For example, I am graduating in december from Univ. of Michigan with a BA in Anthropology emphasis on Culture. Now what on earth am I going to do with that degree? Easy, I'm going to work at a hospital doing clinical research. Their degree requirements? a social science degree and good people skills. Major in what you want because it is interesting not because you feel you "have" to do it. Don't be afraid to change either. I made a fairly drastic jump from Materials Science Engineering to Anthro, at the end of my soph. year. Would it have been easier to stay in engineering? Maybe for some, but not for me. The classes were nothing like i wanted/expected and I really didn't like it. Would I be making more money if i stayed in engineering? Hell yeah, i have a friend who will be making almost twice what I am when i start working full time (he's an engineer). But I'll enjoy my job now and to me that is worht the lower pay.
So I guess what I'm saying is, don't necissarily get a degree because you think it'll be useful, get a degree in something that you are really interested in.
and Cristl, when a door is shut a window is opened, but we often spend so long looking at the closed door that we miss seeing the window. Take a night to sleep on it and try looking at this mess from a different angle tomorrow. You might be able to figure something else out. DOn't worry they want to take your money! they will gladly put you in debt so they can take more money from you (they being Riddle Financial Aid) |
