Default American/Canadian IFR Procedures

I'm just started my IREX in Mel., Australia which is the theoretical component of the command instrument rating down here. I've been told that NDB's are being phased out over the next two or so years and that NDB/NPA are becoming a thing of the past with GPS precision approaches taking the reins -

The Australian airspace and flight rules are somewhat tailoring to what the FAA follows -- so --

-- do you still have NDB/NPA's or is everything GPS now?
(besides ILS,DME etc approaches)

thanks
