"A few months" worth of instructing will not position him perfectly for when hiring resumes. There is a metric crap-ton of pilots whose gobs of experience will put them at the head of the line. There's been a pretty significant paradigm shift in the industry recently and
anyone starting now should expect to instruct for a year or two--which was pretty much the norm 10-15 years ago.
