i've also had hirsh. it was also the only checkride i ever busted. my cfi initial (mei). i didn't make it through the oral. get this, he busted me on the wings program. i gave him all the right answers, they just weren't specific enough. went back a week later and passed. at the end he said "well, you fly the airplane a hell of a lot better than you talk, i'll met you inside." i don't think i'd ever been so relieved. i wouldn't recommend going to him for a cfi initial checkride. my oral was almost 4 and a half hours before i busted. he let me continue with the rest of the oral after i busted which was about another half hour. he charged me $400 for the checkride and $50 for the retake. if you do go to him for a initial cfi, KNOW THE WINGS PROGRAM COLD!!! I'd heard of him busting others on it so i studied the wings and he still failed me on it. he is definatley a tough examiner.
